Julia Woodman Honored at this year’s Penland Auction
Julia Woodman will be the first Penland artist to be honored with the Lucy Morgan Award at the Lucy Morgan Leaders luncheon at the 38th Annual Penland Benefit Auction on Friday, August 25.
Julia Woodman has lived an extraordinary life as a metals artist but her early childhood was on a farm in Candler, right off Smoky Park Highway. She was married at what is now the Biltmore Lake Clubhouse. Her work is known worldwide, particularly in Finland where she studied and lived for many years. Today, her exceptional craftsmanship as a silversmith and blacksmith can be found in the collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the High Museum (Atlanta), and the Dallas Museum of Art.
Julia will be the first Penland artist to be honored with the Lucy Morgan Award at the Lucy Morgan Leaders luncheon at the 38th Annual Penland Benefit Auction on Friday, August 25. The Gala Weekend includes three art auctions, exhibits, studio open houses, hand-crafted food, art demos, and more featuring 182 pieces. Proceeds benefit Penland's educational programs.
