Artist Statement
Tiffany Payne, the Metalsmith behind Young Crone, is a multi-generational WNC native with a lifelong passion for art and jewelry making. She transforms her affinity for nature, dreams, synchronicities, and her surroundings into everyday jewelry to comfort and empower others.
Artist Bio:
Tiffany Payne is a multi-generational WNC native and a graduate of Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts- Jewelry Program. Immediately upon graduating, Tiffany began working full time as a metalsmith, assisting several local jewelers with production and teaching at a community jewelry studio. All the while, Tiffany has been nurturing her own studio practice and growing Young Crone Jewelry. Her continued professional development has led to attending Penland School of Craft and Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts with a focus in various stone setting and vitreous enameling techniques. Drawing inspiration from the natural environment that she grew up in —particularly her relationship with wildcrafting plant medicine, animism, vivid dreams, and the poetic nature of coping with life, grief, and transformation. Tiffany produces heirloom quality everyday and art jewelry to empower the wearer.
